HERBAL COMBINATION

                                             HERBAL COMBINATION

Herbal combinations

Although you can use one type of grass at a time, there are many great combinations that work well as well.

Some traditional combinations are:

basil - with chives, chilli, garlic, oregano

bay - with parsley, thyme, garlic, oregano, marjoram

chili - with coriander, garlic, ginger, lemongrass, mint, oregano

chives - with basil, garlic, tarragon

dill - with chives, garlic, parsley, tarragon

garlic - with basil, rosemary, sage, fennel, chilli, coriander

oregano - with basil, parsley, chives, thyme, bay leaf, chilli

sage - with rosemary, garlic, marjoram

thyme - with bay leaf, parsley, garlic, rosemary.

As our food landscape is constantly evolving, particularly with the influence brought by new immigrant groups, so is the availability of herbs that were previously rare in Australia. For example, Vietnamese food is known for using herbs so abundantly that sometimes there are more herbs than salad leaves in a Vietnamese salad.

Native ingredients like lemon myrtle, river mint, and allspice, for example, are also starting to become more widely available.

Herbs can be combined in various ways to create blends that offer specific benefits or enhance flavors.

Here are a few common herbal combinations:

Culinary blends: Herbs such as basil, oregano, thyme, and rosemary can be combined to make a classic Italian or Mediterranean seasoning blend for pasta sauces, grilled meats, or vegetables.

Tea blends: Herbs such as chamomile, lemon balm, and passionflower can be combined to make a relaxing bedtime tea.

Aromatherapy blends: Essential oils from herbs such as lavender, peppermint, and eucalyptus can be blended to create a refreshing or soothing aroma.

Home remedy blends: Herbs such as ginger, turmeric, and cinnamon can be combined to make a tea to help with digestive health.

It's important to note that not all herbs are safe to combine, as some may interact with each other and cause negative side effects. Additionally, not all herbal combinations are effective, as the potency and efficacy of each herb can vary. Consult with a healthcare professional or a qualified aromatherapist before using any herbal combinations for medicinal purposes.
